Leupold Mk4 and Mk5 Ocular Cover Fit

Jul 30th 2026

The Mk4 (some models) and Mk5 Leupold scopes have a particularly unique ocular shape with limited bearing surface for the scope covers to grab. The 44 mm - Long size is recommended, but will be tight going on as is slides over the largest diameter of the housing. It will “set” on to the ocular housing and after a week or so you it can be removeed after the softer material of the inner sleeve conforms to the tapers and recesses of the ocular housing. This will ensure it cannot come off inadvertently as temperatures get warm and especially in direct sunlight in the summer. This is something we have done extensive testing up to 130F with the Mk5 line of scopes.

To help with installation, the best thing you can do is use some heat (a hair dryer is best) to warm up the softer inner sleeve of the bumper. Heat below 200F will not hurt the material at all. Once hot to the touch, the sleeve will be more pliant and will slide on with less force. As it cools it will regain rigidity and be fit to the housing.
